Carleton (Carly) Fiorina, 45, is president and chief executive officer of Hewlett-Packard Company, a leading provider of computers, software, peripherals, and computer services worldwide. She has had nearly twenty years of experience in the telecommunications industry and is dedicated to growing HP's Internet services operations. Fiorina began her career in the early 1980s as sales representative for AT&T where she eventually held several senior positions. She led Lucent's 1996 IPO (initial public offering) and then spin-off from AT&T which was one of the most successful IPOs of all time. From 1997 to 1999 she served as president of Lucent's Global Service Provider Business, which was the largest and fastest-growing division under her leadership. She was named president and chief executive officer of HP in 1999.

Fiorina is the first woman to run a Dow 30 company. Fortune magazine named Fiorina one of the most powerful women in American business for two years in a row.

She is a member of the board of directors for Merck & Company and for the Kellogg Company, and she was elected to the U.S. China Board of Trade.

She was born in 1955, the daughter of a law professor. She graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor's degree in medieval history and philosophy. She received a master's degree in business administration from the University of Maryland at College Park and a Master of Science degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School. She is married to husband Frank, who is retired from AT&T.
